Source: Apprentice: Apprentice in prior centuries was the way to learn a trade to support oneself and the family. Apprenticeships are still common in many countries. To this day in North America in order to become a plumber, electrician or carpenter a person must spend a certain amount of time with someone licensed or certified in the field. To become S physical therapist it is required you observe physical therapist first. Apprenticeships do still exist but the terms are different. Colonial times the apprentice also lived with the skilled tradesman and his family. This is obviously rarely necessary in modern countries. Perhaps it still necessary in less developed countries. I’ve come to the end of my knowledge on this word. Lucky you!
